Mudhead Kachina holding a rattle and a feather in each hand. “The Mudhead Kachina is a vital, well-known, and ubiquitous figure in Hopi and Zuni ceremonies, representing a clown, messenger, and dancer. Identified by a reddish-brown, knobbed, mud-covered mask, they provide entertainment, humor, and announcements during dances. They are considered sacred yet often act in comical ways, representing a “father and son” dynamic.” Stands 4 inches tall, hand fabricated out of sterling silver. Stamped “Sterling” and signed “Jeffrey Castillo Mudhead” on the bottom of the base.
